Spring
The first hare kittens are already more than a month old. They have started to eat grass on the redoubts and fields. The fox pups are also large enough to move away from their dens. Near waterholes, the croaks of tree frogs can be heard.
On the Gendarmsti (the gendarm path) you can come across the characteristic shoots of the great horsetail. They resemble asparagus with brown rings.
The flag is raised on Dybbøl on 10 April, the southern Jutland flag day to commemorate the referendum in 1920 when southern Jutland was returned to Denmark. Dybbøl Day on 18 April is commemorated with many ceremonies and activities.
The cows are let out to graze on Dybbøl Banke around 1 May.
Summer
The blood-red corn poppies flower.
Skylarks flock on Dybbøl Banke, where they sing their shrill songs or hunt for insects.
Autumn
Flocks of widgeon, Eurasian teal and tufted duck gather in Viemosen, especially in bad weather. Greylag goose also gather here.
Winter
Goosander arrive from northern Scandinavia to spend the winter at Als Sund. The birds can be seen near Christian X’s Bridge in the winter. The large duck lives on fish and a group of birds can work together to form a chain in which they entrap the fish.
When snow covers the landscape, the large hills at Dybbøl Banke are perfect for sledging and skiing.
Hare feed their first litters at the end of February.
