Practical information - Dybbøl Banke

Most of the paths in the Dybbøl area are grass paths in hilly terrain. The paths are generally suitable for wheelchairs and prams. However, some of them are steep (more than 10%).

There is access to the Dybbøl Banke History Centre, Dybbøl Mill, Kongeskansen and Redoubt IV in the middle of the area along paved roads. Access is difficult for wheelchairs and prams inside the redoubts and in the open grassy areas.

There is a small primitive camping area with tables, benches and camp-fire site by Gendarmsti (the gendarm path) west of Redoubt I.

Dogs are welcome on Dybbøl Banke, but they must be on a leash because of the livestock and game in the area.

The 74km-long Gendarmsti from the border at Padborg to Høruphav on Als offers varying landscapes and many historic sites. If you are willing to get off and push now and then, most of the path is also suitable for cycling. You can also take just shorter trips along parts of the path.

A network of hiking paths links the redoubt area with Gendarmsti and the forest along the coast at Vemmingbund. From here you can see Broagerland, from where the Danish positions were bombarded in 1864. The beautiful trip along Grønnekærvej leads past Langdamgård; the site of heavy fighting in 1864.

The roads and many of the paths are also accessible by bicycle.

There is a 4.9km running route starting from the car park at the end of Sundgade. The route is signposted with km posts.

Dybbøl Banke is best seen from foot. All the redoubts can be reached along roads or grass-covered paths, most of which are suitable for wheelchairs or prams.

There is a primitive campsite with tables, benches and camp-fire site by Gendarmsti west of Redoubt I. The campsite is close to the beautiful countryside at Viemosen, home to many water fowl.
